Happy Monday, everyone! And happy Hanukkah to my fellow Members of the Tribe.
Well, my fiancé, schnauzer and I (more or less) survived our emergency move-out-of-our-home-due-to-a-slab-leak-that-ruined-everything experience last week. It wasn’t pretty, but we got it done thanks to the help of our insurance claim (thankfully part of the claim included professional packers/movers). We now live in a 2-bedroom suite with a kitchenette at a 2-star hotel in Scottsdale, where we’ll be for the next 2-ish months.
As you can imagine, I’ve been spoiled over the last 10 years with countless press trips to amazing 5-star hotels, so this place is a bit “basic” (to say the least) … but it’ll do. On the bright side, we get a free breakfast daily (if you’re into budget hotel breakfasts), there’s a small heated pool, free weekly housekeeping, and we snagged a first-floor room so we don’t have to deal with an elevator with Lily (who definitely misses the freedom of her doggie door). And I’m accruing a TON of IHG points, which should come in handy for vacations next year!
And because last week wasn’t enough of a crisis, my trusty iMac of 8 years decided it was the perfect time to die … so I’m writing this from my brand-new iMac (she’s pink and I’m in love).
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving … we drove 3 hours north of Phoenix to my parents’ house (they live in the mountains at 6,300 feet elevation, so we got to experience winter temps!) and had a relaxing few days (that we REALLY needed).
I even made a TikTok video featuring my mom and Lily, and it’s my most-watched/liked post to date (please check it out and give it some love)!
Here’s a pic of the four of us from this weekend (my brother just moved to Charlotte in October, so he wasn’t able to visit so soon):
Tomorrow, the mitigation crew will begin demolition of the inside of our home and by week’s end we’ll have a report of the full extent of the damage (in the walls and under cabinets, which they couldn’t assess until we moved out). Should be interesting!
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who reached out after last week’s newsletter … I received such an amazing outpouring of love, offers of help, Starbucks gift cards, stories of your own water-damage-related nightmares, etc. I didn’t get the chance to reply to most of you in the craziness, but please know I read every email and I was so touched by all of your support!
Ok, now onto work. I basically haven’t worked in about 10 days, so I have a lot of assignments to catch up on (all of my editors were AMAZING, and pushed back deadlines or reassigned stories … but now they are DUE!)! Please see below … a couple are rather urgent, so I apologize for the short deadlines!
Thanks and have a great week!
Jill
