When You Invite a Writer to a Meal/Coffee, Here's the ONE Thing You MUST Always Do
This new trend is shocking, tacky and will make journalists think twice about engaging with you ever again
Hi everyone!
I get a lot of invites from publicists who are planning to visit Phoenix and want to meet me for lunch/coffee/dinner/drinks … it’s always so nice to put a face to a name when I happen to be in town and am free to join them! Other times, I’m the one who’s traveling and a publicist will discover I’m going to be in their town and want to secure a “date” with me during my visit. It’s honestly so nice when this works out!
Until it isn’t.
Recently, I encountered a very strange situation upon my arrival to one of these “dates” … a breakfast meeting. And when I shared my story with other writers, they had their own equally puzzling stories to share as well … which made us realize that this major PR faux pas is not a one-off situation, but appears to be a growing trend.
Read on to discover what happened to me and THREE other writer friends … I now feel it’s my duty to help spread awareness and educate publicists so that your actions don’t inadvertently turn writers off from meeting with you ever again or working with you at all.
And frankly, I’m shocked this even needs to be said at all … but here we are.
