I attend a lot of press trips … at least a dozen a year, sometimes more. In fact, I’m on one right now, writing this from a cruise ship somewhere near the Bahamas (en route to Orlando, where I’ll then head straight to Miami for another press trip).
I already have 6 press trips booked through May (including the Caribbean, Asia, Paris, the Mediterranean, and Las Vegas) and am in talks with various agencies/brands for the second half of 2024 now. I’m not saying this to brag; you’ll find out why this nugget is important shortly.
And I’ve been doing press trips since 2012. You could say I’m a connoisseur of press trips at this point, so I know a good invitation and offer when I see one. I also know which red flags to avoid based on disappointing experiences.
More frequently, publicists are reaching out to me to ask why they can’t get journalists to commit to their press trips … they think they have an attractive offer, but just aren’t getting responses. And the responses they DO get aren’t as favorable as they’d like. Then, their clients begin to question why they haven’t secured the top tier journalists of their dreams.
